Due to complete disassembly, the project was delivered to us in three separate loads. The customer wanted the final results to be "show quality".
Restoration began with the removal of all drive train components. The rear ends were replaced with newer model rear ends. The frame was boxed to add more strength. All new suspension was installed. The original engine was discarded. A v-6 engine was used instead. The customer wanted power brakes and we installed them.
At the customer's request power steering with a late model tilt steering wheel was added. This meant custom fabrication to allow for the power steering.
A new fiberglass body was ordered. When it arrived, it was modified to have a flush gas door, recessed license plate, and recessed taillights. We were able to restore the original front fenders, hood, and window frame. The body was then ready for the paint process. After meeting with the customer, the color scheme of a Mountain Dew can was decided on. Special blending of colors was required to have the Willys reflect the image of Mountain Dew.
Once the painting was complete, it was time for some final touches. Custom made 12X15 wheels were ordered. They were mounted on 33 inch Goodyear Tires. An instrument /gauge panel was fabricated and installed. We designed and fabricated custom front and rear bumpers and a 6-point roll cage. The last touch was the hand painted Mountain Dew logos on the side panels and the "catch phrase" from the very old commercials, "It'll Tickle Your Innards" between the taillights.
The 1952 Jeep Willys was debuted at a large open show within a week of completion. It was chosen in the top 50. The customer was not only satisfied with the results, but also pleased that the project took only 187 days from start to finish.
